It is HARD to accept the death of a loved one, especially when you didn’t have the chance to say goodbye.
Until his demise on Monday 8th      of December 2015, Professor Gabriel Odia was a close and fondly loved erstwhile pioneering chairman of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria who served in the capacity from December 1992-2003 and 2004-2007 respectively. He undoubtedly gave the Board the firm foundation upon which her success is built today.
Born on the 30th April, 1934, Professor Odia attended St. Peters Primary School Benin City, (1941-1945) and Igbobi College (1946-1951). A graduate of the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada and he served in various professional and academic positions at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, and the College of Medicine, University of Lagos and Lagos University Teaching Hospital where he was an Honorary Consultant Physiotherapist. He pioneered the physiotherapy training at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.
His selfless contributions toward the development of the board and the medical rehabilitation profession at large was one of several reasons we wrote him to honor him with an award scheduled for Wednesday 9th of December 2015. Baba Odia as fondly referred to, gladly accepted our invitation and agreed to grace the occasion with his lovely wife also present, this grew our hope of having him around once again. Little did we know that God’s plan was entirely different from ours. As a result of his demise, the Award ceremony has been postponed till later date.
Sir, as you rest, we wish to say we were deprived of the opportunity to wine, dine and celebrate with you as anticipated but we are most assured that someday we will meet again to part no more.
Continue to rest in Peace.
